Chuck Horning - Entrepreneur, Activist, and Land Steward

Throughout his career, Chuck Horning has demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of real estate investment and corporate leadership. He has owned a wide variety of properties with uses ranging from health care to high-end hospitality, many of which he sold in the late 1980s to focus on his interests in vacation and resort properties and commercial office projects. Remaining as chairman of Newport Federal, a position he has held since 1970, Chuck Horning most recently acquired the Telluride Ski & Golf Resort of Colorado. In 2013, the Telluride resort achieved widespread attention when a student at ColoradoMesaUniversity approached Mr. Horning regarding a charitable partnership. This partnership has led to a program in which ski pass purchasers can donate funds to the Global Health Program, which brings care to areas in need.

Politically active in his personal life, as well, Chuck Horning advocates for data-based discussion between those who hold opposing viewpoints. He also stands out as a dedicated activist for land preservation, in particular the rehabilitation of soil depleted by modern agricultural practices. The owner of more than 12,000 acres of land in California and Hawaii, he uses his own holdings as a positive model for stewardship.
